3,000 Workers Risk Salary Stoppage …As FCTA Probes Staff Credentials
The FCT Administration has concluded plan to stop the salaries of more than 3,000 staff members with effect from October.
A statement issued by Muhammad Sule, the Chief Press Secretary to FCT minister, Bala Mohammed, said the workers were discovered to have faulty credentials, record of service and age discrepancies.
“A total of 27,000 enrolment forms were distributed to our staff to capture their bio-metric, and only 25,246 officers participated in the exercise,’’ he said.
“We observed that of the 25,246 officers who participated in the data capture exercise, 3,296 staff members with various offences, such as credentials, record of service and age discrepancies, were discovered.
“We will stop their salary in October pending when clarification of queries against them is concluded.’’
It said the exercise was conducted to ensure prudent and judicious utilisation of financial resources to enable the administration increase infrastructural development.
“I have specifically directed for the verification of Health and Human Services and Education secretariats because they consume almost 65 per cent of the FCT wage bill, which was suspected to be as a result of ‘ghost’ workers or other anomalies.”
The statement said that the FCTA would carry out a competency test on staff of Education Secretariat to weed out unqualified teachers.
It also said that steps would be taken for salary payroll of all the secretariats, departments and agencies to be integrated and administered from FCT Treasury Department.
