Dickson Charges Muslims On Tolerance
Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State last Saturday enjoined the Muslim faithful to uphold the tenets of Islam for peaceful coexistence and good neighbourliness.
He said this when he hosted members of the Islamic Community in Government House, Yenagoa, to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Fitri.
Dickson urged them to show respect and tolerance for ethnic and religious diversity of the country.
He criticised fundamentalism in the practise of any religion, pointing out that no religion preaches terrorism or violence.
He said”No religion encourages terrorism but as a people with a common heritage we must strive to live in peace and harmony. And for us to live amicably together we must show tolerance and respect for each other.
He commended the Muslim Ummah in the state for their peaceful conduct and harmonious co-existence with Christians.
Dickson noted that people should be free to practise any religion of their choice as provided in the constitution of the country.
