19,000 For Nov WASCE In Rivers
Nineteen Thousand
(19,000) candidates are billed to participate in the November/December 2013 examination being organised by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in Rivers State.
Deputy Registrar/Zonal Co-ordinator of the Port Harcourt zonal office, Mr Patrick Areghan disclosed this in an interview with The Tide in his office.
He warned impersonators and other examination fraudsters steer clear as the council had fortified strategies to eliminate or drastically reduce examination malpractice all its examinations. The Zonal Co-ordinator said exam supervisors would by next week commence special training on how to handle biometric machines designed to expose imposters and other examination fraudsters.
“It would be difficult if not impossible for impostors to beat this new strategy”, the WAEC Zonal boss said.
Though Areghan would not give further details on the new security strategy, The Tide gathered that the security machines would be made availale in the centres to recapture the data and photographs of each candidate registerd to participate in the examination.
Other steps by the council to check fraud, according to the zonal boss included strict and regular monitoring of centres, swapping or rotation of supervisors as well as the use of security bags with keys to carry the examination questions and other papers.
