Ogbakiri Returnees Laud Amaechi, Odili, Kattey
The people of Oduoha-Ogbakiri in Emohua Local Government Area (EMOLGA) have commended the former governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odili and Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as well as the Arch-Bishop, Niger Delta province and Dean, Nigerian Anglican Communion, Most Rev. I. C. O. Kattey for their efforts that led to the restoration of peace and unity in the community.
The commendation was made by the former registrar of University of Port Harcourt, Chief (Dr) Emmanuel Acheru (JP) on behalf of the Oduoha-Ogbakiri returnees at their reception ceremony last Saturday.
They also paid tribute to Rev Father Emmanuel Maru of the Port Harcourt Diocese of the Catholic Church, the Ogbakor Ikwerre convention, the Ogbakiri Women Peace Forum and the Paramount Ruler of Ogbakiri community, HRH, Eze Ferdinand Mekwa Eleni Ekenta XIII.
Dr Acheru noted that since assumption of the Ekenta stool in 2007, the paramount ruler had taken bold steps towards the return of Ogbakiri indigenes in diaspora and also ensured peace and development in the community.
He therefore called for the deserved respect and reverence of the Ekenta stool which was recognised in 1961 by the former Eastern Nigeria government.
The former registrar also announced that “The community known as Rumueziokwu of Ogbakiri clan has been abolished and all chieftaincy titles under Rumueziokwu is therefore null and void, including the office of Prime Minister of Rumueziokwu as all have become one under the leadership of ‘Nne Weli’ Ogbakiri, HRH Eze Ferdinand Mekwa Eleni Ekenta.”
The Otonna’s autonomous compound of Rumuoro welcomed the returnees for embracing peace and reconciliation, which they described as a landmark achievement in the peace process.
