Flooding: LG Deploys Councillors To Wards
Alhaji Hassan Abdullahi, Chairman Sokoto North Local Government, on Saturday directed councillors in the council to mobilise their supporters on the need to desist from indiscriminate dumping of wastes in drains, to check flooding.
Abdullahi told newsmen that the exercise would help to clear drains for the smooth passage of water during the rainy season.
He expressed regrets that the council experienced flooding last year in some parts of the council due to blocked drains.
The chairman said that several houses and food items were destroyed due to flood, hence the need to take steps in preventing future occurrences.
He explained that proactive measures had been put in place to prevent flooding through proper mobilisation of the people on the need to dispose their refuse properly.
Abdullahi said that the council had also dialogued with traditional rulers and development associations on the need to sensitise their people to desist from dumping refuse in water ways.
He said active participation of the royal fathers would help in checking indiscriminate waste disposal.
