The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday said Nigeria was losing 600,000 barrels of oil daily to thieves.
The Vice President of the NLC, Issa Aremu, said this in Ilorin while delivering a lecture at a seminar on industrial harmony organised for workers of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
He attributed oil theft to negligence, dishonesty and insincerity on the part of workers and called for transparency, dedication and love for the country by workers in the oil sector to arrest the situation.
Aremu also called on the government to motivate Nigerian workers to enable them concentrate on their primary assignment.
He also called for periodic review of workers’ minimum wage to eradicate corruption, saying “motivation of workers will aid productivity and development.’’
The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, said the Federal Government was working to ensure industrial harmony in the health sector.
The minister was represented by a director in the ministry, Mr Alex Oluyona.
The Chairman, Governing Board of the University Teaching Teaching Hospital (UITH), Mrs Jumoke Anifowoshe, called for mutual trust, honesty and cooperation among the staff of the hospital.
She advised the management of the hospital to always implement agreements reached with workers to ensure industrial harmony.
