Gokana Utd Consolidates Top Position In Two B
One of Rivers State flagbearers in the Amateur Nationwide Division Two B League, Gokana United FC of Gokana Local Government Area has extended its lead on top of the division’s league table with a comprehensive victory over visiting FC Arinze of Abia State at the weekend.
It was the first match of the second phase of the season and Gokana United, which had held the visitors to a goalless draw in the reverse fixture at Aba in the first phase ran riot at home to achieve a 3-0 victory.
With the goals and victory that came in the second half of 13 points from five matches to lead its group comfortably.
The match played at Bera Football field had kicked off with both Gokana United and FC Arinze locked in battle of supremacy.
Both sides, especially, in the first half, gave as much as they received in a keenly contested half that yielded a lone goal to Gokana United, scored by Dennis Dornu.
On resumption howver, Gokana, with the introduction of a new midfielder seized the initiative and put the visitors under immense pressure.
The pressure yielded two more goals, scored by captain and goalkeeper, Saturday Nwazormi and Innocent Matthew, fondly called ‘Camera’ by fans.
Speaking after the match, the General Manager of Gokana United, Ambassador Solomon Lah paid tribute to the fans for supporting the club and motivating the players.
He declared that the club’s management through the assistance of the council chairman, Hon.Demua Ledee Demua, were doing everything possible to see that the club gets promotion to play in Division One next season
He also noted that the club has contributed in efforts towards sustained peaceful environment by becoming a rallying point for the youth in the area.
Gokana United will next play Bussdor FC away in Owerri.
