Women Get Fish Processing Machine
Women in Idah Local Government Area of Kogi State have received a fish processing machine for their use in the area.
The machine which was inaugurated by the wife of the State governor, Hajia Halima Wada under the auspices of Kogi Women Empowerment Network (KOWEN), a pet project of Wada to empower women, was specially provided for those living in the rural areas.
At the occasion, the wife of the governor said that the machine was expected to reduce the drudgery women undergo in processing their fish, adding that it will also help the women to become self-reliance and open more markets.
Wada said that the machine would help women produce crocker fish bush meat, fish cake, while there were plans to purchase more for women in other local government areas.
Earlier, the Director of the local government council, Mr Musa Bako had thanked the governor’s wife for setting up the project at Idah, noting that it would go a long way in reducing women’s hardship.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Ms Patience Mameh, who was represented by Ms Joy Akor, said the knowledge gained from the project would be applied in other areas for profitable ventures.
