VC, Others Hail Elechi Amadi’s Literary Prowess
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof Joseph Ajienka, has extolled the virtues of captain Elechi Amadi over his enormous contributions to the development of creative writing and literary prowess in the society.
Prof Ajienka, who was among dignitaries that honoured the launching of a book, titled; “The Beggars story and other Tales,” co-authered by former students of Elechi Amadi School of Creative Writing at the Ebitimi Banigo Hall, UNIPORT, described Elechi Amadi as a literary Icon, who haD shown indepth commitment to the development of creative writing.
The Vice chancellor, said the University would give its maximum support to Elechi Amadi in the development of budding creative talents to ensure that youths assert their creative minds positively.
Prof Ajienka also commended the authors for their creative abilities, and assured that copies of the book would be acquired and kept in the University Library for effective use.
In his remarks, chairman of the book launch, Prof Otonti Nduka, commended Elechi Amadi for his untiring efforts in literary development in the society.
Prof Nduka, noted that a functional society is that which puts into practice its creative endowment, and called for collective effort towards the promotion of creative writing and reading culture.
Reviewing the book, a University Don, Dr. Seiyefa Koroye, said the book was a master piece of creativity demonstrated by the authors in their individual stories.
He explained that the stories were satirical as they exposed the ills of society.
Dr. Koroye also applauded the depth of analysis and sequence of presentation in the collective work of art, and added that the book would be of immense values to lovers of literature.
Speaking, Captain Elechi Amadi thanked the dignitaries for honouring the book launch.
He also assured that he would remain committed to the development of the arts through the encouragement of budding talents, and called on the youth to embrace creative writing as a hallmark for their liberation from the shackles of ignorance and crime.
Speaking onbehalf of the authors, one of the co-author, Inemesit Uniofia, thanked Elechi Amadi for his encouragement and tutelage which had spurred their creative endeavours.
She also called on the youth to shun violence and look into the creative abilities as a means of scaling life’s hurdles.
