CRHA Seeks Military Intervention Over Communal Clashes
The Cross River State House of Assembly last Monday passed a resolution urging the Federal Government to deploy military personnel in crisis- prone boundary between Adadama community of Cross River State and Amaegu in Ebonyi State.
The resolution was adopted following a motion of “Urgent Public Interest” by Mr John Lebo, member representing Abi Constituency.
The house observed that the deployment would guarantee permanent peace and ensure that no further aggression took place.
The assembly also requested the state Attorney-General to take “immediate legal action” to determine the reasons for the frequent crisis between the two neighbouring communities.
It also directed the National Boundary Commission to demarcate the boundary in dispute.
The house called on the National Emergency Management Agency and State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to the displaced persons in Adadama.
The legislature appealed to the state government to rebuild the Adadama Police Station and staff quarters, which were vandalised and provide access road to the community.
It commended Gov. Liyel Imoke for his “prompt and proactive response” to the recent attack on Adadama community and the deployment of the Joint Military Task Force to the area.
The house had earlier in January, condemned the attack on Adadama community which led to the death of several people.
