Sekibo Plans More Computers For Schools
The Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, says he would soon distribute computers and accessories to 52 secondary schools in his Senatorial District.
Senator Sekibo who said this during the conferment of an award on him by the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Port Harcourt also canvassed for the support of humanitarian organisations and the less privileged in the society.
He described the Red Cross as an important organization which has remained committed to the service of mankind and stressed the need for the gesture to be sustained.
The Senator lauded the role of the society during emergencies, noting that the effort of the organisation during the Nigerian Civil War saved his life and millions of other Nigerians.
He noted that this situation was responsible for his committed efforts towards the improvement of humanity and commended them for the award.
The chairman of the Port Harcourt Division of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Mr. David-West Egede who presented the award on behalf of the society said that it was in recognition of his support to the less privileged in the society.
Egede said that the Senator’s scholarship programme and several empowerment initiatives had helped to lift the downtrodden in the society.
He said that the society decided to award him the honour as a way of thanking him for what he had done and urged for more support to the society.
