NPA Donates Relief Materials To Flood Victims
The Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) recently donated N20 million worth of relief materials to flood victims in Cross River.
Donating the materials on behalf of the NPA in Calabar, Mr Shola Adesanwo, Manager, Public Affairs Department of NPA, said the gesture was in line with the corporate social responsibility of NPA.
Adesanwo said that the items were donated in collaboration with the House of Representative Committee on Transport and Marine. The Tide reports that items donated by the company include bags of rice, blankets and mattresses. Adesanwo said that the donations would assist victims in the state in line with the directives of the federal Government to alleviate the sufferings of the flood victims.
He said that the NPA had donated similar relief materials to eight other states in the country to cushion the impact of the disaster on the people.
“This items as you can see, we are distributing items to Kogi, Benue, Jos, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo and Lagos simultaneous.,’’ he said.
The acting Governor of the state, Mr Effiok Cobham, expressed gratitude to the agency for the gesture and said that the materials would assist the victims.
Cobham, who was represented by Mr Vincent Aquah, Director-General of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), appealed for more donations from individuals and corporate organisations.
He assured the people that the relief materials would be distributed judiciously to the affected victims.
In his remarks, Mr Daniel Asuquo, member representing Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constitution at the National Assembly, thanked the NPA for donating relief materials to flood victims in the state.
Asuquo said that the donation would help to address the devastating effect of the flood on victims. Asuquo, who was represented by his wife, Mrs Ekanem Asuquo, appealed to SEMA to distribute the relief materials to the affected victims on time.
