Customs Intercepts 3,000 Shotgun Cartridges
The Ogun State
Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said that in the last three
months, it seized 3,000 shotgun cartridges smuggled into the country from
neighbouring countries.
The Area Controller of the Command, Mr
Ade Dosunmu, made this known in Abeokuta while briefing newsmen on the
activities and achievements of the command in the last three months. He said
that customs officials on patrol in Agosasa Area of the command intercepted an
unmarked Honda CRV conveying the 3,000 high speed cartridges.
Dosunmu, however, expressed regret that
the driver of the vehicle ran into the bush to escape arrest by officials on
patrol.
He said further that the command also
seized 392 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, Indian heap valued at about N1.7
million in the period under review. “We also confiscated 171 vehicles, 2,058
cartons of frozen products, 465 kegs of 25 litres vegetable oil, four drums and
112 kegs of 25 litres of petrol; and 567 bags of imported rice.
“Textile materials, second-hand
clothes, shoes, towels, bags and bed sheets worth N11 million were also seized
from smugglers,” he said.
The Controller, who disclosed that six
out of eight suspects arrested in connection with various seizures had been
arraigned, said that one had bagged two years jail term.
