All Stars Club Supports Handicapped, Elderly In PH
In keeping with the spirit of the yuletide, two notable charity homes played host to Goldashe United Football Club of Port Harcourt last Saturday, as food items worth thousands of Naira were donated in support of the occupants.
The Port Harcourt Cheshire and Old People’s Homes both of which are located in the Town axis of the city received bags of rice, tomatoes, onions and other accompanying condiments from the part time footballers.
In his remark at the occasion, the President of the club and Director of Finance and Admin, Government House, Port Harcourt, Mr. Fubara Kingsley Hart said there was no better time to demonstrate affection towards the less privileged in the society than the Christmas period, a time the world is rejoicing over the greatest gift of salvation to mankind.
Fubara Kingsley Hart said the occasion was a great experience for him, as he savoured every moment of it.
“For me it is dream come true giving all these items to these elderly citizens many of whom do not have children or loved ones to cater for them. As an orphan, I will cherish this experience because it makes me feel like I am giving these things to my real parents” he said, adding that Goldashe would make the exercise an annual ritual.
Describing the experience as fulfilling, he called on sister clubs in the state to follow suit so as to put smiles on the faces of these people many of whose lives have been committed to the homes.
Earlier while responding to the gesture, the Matron of the Old People’s Home, Sister Jane Raphael expressed heartfelt gratitude to the visitors for their benevolence.
“What you have done today is a sincere obedience to God’s command and the implication is that none of you will be abandoned by your children. You will all see old age and will be well catered for by your children in Jesus name” she prayed.
The high point of the occasion was a trip to a ward where a 138-year old woman, Ma Margaret Anya lay on her bed. Supported by Sister Raphael and Goldashe President, Ma Anya who hailed from Isuochi in Abia State was able to sit up on the bed and muttered words of prayer for the visiting footballers.
