FG Launches Jetty In Rivers
In a bid to reinforce President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration belief in local content, the Federal Government has launched the Okrika Jetty in Rivers State that was gutted by fire in 2006.
Speaking while launching the jetty recently, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke said the event marks another milestone in the history of the present administration as the jetty could take up to 35.000 tonnes of products.
Mrs. Allison-Madueke, who expressed delight over the project, noted that the jetty, which was initially built to load products from the Port Harcourt refinery, had been redesigned to accommodate imported products.
According to her, the refinery also pumps the imported products to the south-eastern zone depots in Aba and Enugu to Minna in Niger State and Gombe in Gombe State through the system 2E and 2EX pipeline network.
She reiterated the Federal Government’s desire to ensure the rehabilitation of its refineries in order to reduce the importation of products into the country.
Such products expected at the jetty include Automated Gas Oil (AGO), fuel oil, Dual purpose kerosene (DPK) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from the Port Harcourt refinery.
She noted that the Okrika jetty ‘B’ that was launched had a lot of economic benefits for the people of Okrika community and the entire citizens of the country, and charged all to ensure the protection of oil facilities in their areas.
