106 ASALGA Indigenes Get Bursaries
About 106 undergraduates of Ifoko origin in the Asari Toru local Government have received their 2010/2011 bursaries.
The gesture was part of the programme by the Ifoko Community Trust (CT) in Degema 3 cluster under the Shell Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMOU) to encourage education in the community.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen shortly after the presentation of cheques of N30,000 each to the students, the Chairman of the Committee Chief Elect Georgewill T. Allen said that the scheme would help the students meet their needs in their various institutions as well as encourage others to develop interest in education.
Chief Georgewill who was represented by Comrade Ibiosiya T. Lawson, also said that apart from the bursary, the community Trust has built a health centre, while a guest house is currently under construction in the area.
Other projects includes’ the installation of 3 up KVA transformer, while 22 Motorcycles have been procured for youth empowerment.
He used the occasion to advise the students to make the best use of the scheme taking their studies seriously while also remaining good ambassadors of community by avoiding cultism and other things that will bring disrepute to their people.
Mr. Olu Jakson of the University of Port Harcourt who spoke on behalf of the students commended the Ifoko Community Trust for the gesture which he said that would help them to meet their financial needs.
