Director, Urges Youths To Explore Tourism Potentials
The Director of Research and Documentation, Ministry of
Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Mr Chudi Uwandu, on Thursday, called
on youths to explore the potentials in the tourism sector.
Uwandu, who made the call in an interview with newsmen in
Abuja, noted that the abundant opportunities in the tourism sector had yet to
be harnessed.
According to him, people focus more on the search for white
collar jobs while paying less attention to tourism potentials.
Nwando said that exploring the opportunities in the tourism
sector would diversify the economy and contribute to the nation’s gross
domestic earnings.
He stressed that the age-long neglect of the sector had
contributed immensely to rural-urban migration.
Uwandu also harped on the need to expose young people to
their places of origin to enable them appreciate their culture better.
He said the move would enable the youth to share their
experiences, identify the tourist locations in their communities and promote
their cultural heritage.
Uwandu stressed that better understanding of one’s
personality and origin was crucial to the sustenance of cultural history.
