Abe Donates Marine Equipment To Police, Fishermen In Andoni
Marine equipments worth millions of naira were recently donated to the fisherfolk in Oyorokoto Community in Andoni Local Government Area and some Nigeria Police personnel attached to the Marine Department of the force by the Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe.
The equipments include safety vests, fishing gears, anchors, marine ropes and twine among others.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Senator Abe said the gesture was to boost marine activities of the people as part of his electioneering promises.
Senator Abe said the equipments world go a long way in assisting the Marine Police to reduce the challenges they faced in the course of their duties in the area and the state in general.
He also expressed optimism that the equipments would help the fisherfolk in their marine activities and boost the economy of the state.
According to him, “the last time I visited you as your senator, I observed that the economy of this area needed to be boosted in support of Governor Amaechi’s efforts, and some of the items we have presented to you today will assist you economically”.
Senator Abe, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) however enjoined them to make ultimate use of the equipments to empower their chosen careers.
He assured them that he would collaborate with Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation as well as other developmental agencies to also assist the people of the District to benfit the dividends of democracy and sense of belonging.
In their separate responses, the chairman, Andoni Deep See Fishermen Association, Mr Ineme-Awaji Oguati and the chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Andoni chapter, Comrade Eneotu Job thanked Senator Abe for the gesture which they said would empower them economically and otherwise, describing him as the man of the people that have their interest at heart.
They assured him of their unalloyed support and loyalty and wished him better representation.
