Gambian Businessman Swindles Traders
A 28-year-old Gambian businessman was last Wednesday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, charged with stealing coral beads, worth N2.5 million.
The defendant, Fakeba Manjang, who resides at No. 6, Mawole Str, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of felony, stealing and obtaining goods under pretences.
The prosecutor, ASP Eshiet Eshiet, told the court that Manjang collected the goods from Eliyasu Zakare and Abdullahi Zakare at Yaba market with a promise to sell the items on behalf of the complainants.
According to the prosecutor, the Gambian national neither paid the complainants proceeds from the sale nor returned the goods.
He said that the alleged offences, which were committed in April contravened Sections 409,312 and 285 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate C.O. Abolarinwa granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Aug. 23 for further hearing
