Cleric Tasks Youth On Self Reliance
The Executive Director, Lux Terra Foundation, Rev. George
Ehusani, has urged youths to explore their God-given talents to become self
reliant.
Ehusani made the call last Thursday in Abuja at a five-day
summer camp organised by the foundation for youths.
He said that the event was organised to educate the younger
generation on the need to explore their entrepreneurial skills.
“These are youth leaders brought together to learn the
skills and values of leadership and particularly, this workshop is to teach
entrepreneurial leadership.
“Hundreds of thousands of Nigerian youths attend interviews
almost daily for a handful of vacancies.
“So I think it is time for some of us to begin to show the
young people another way, show them what they can do with their brains, how
they can be creative and entrepreneurial,” he said.
Also speaking on the occasion, Prof. Matt Ivbijaro, the
Managing Director of Mattivi Nig. Ltd, and a guest speaker, said that success
in business required a developed mind.
“Many Nigerian businesses fail because the owners and
employees lack commitment and self discipline to manage the business.
“When you recognise the creative strength within you, it
enables you to ask questions that bring out the mental power in you for use.
“This creative strength in you is the driving force you need
to address and overcome perceived stumbling blocks which prevent success in any
business,” he said.
A participant, Mr Asher Itopa, told our correspondent that
he had learnt so much about leadership and how to face the future.
“I have learnt that becoming a good leader has to do with
inspiration, tutoring and the ability to mentor.
“If you cannot tutor or mentor people, then you are not a
leader, no matter the post or title you have.
“When you have discipline to be able to implement your
vision and ideas, then you are prepared for a better tomorrow,’’ Itopa said.
The event attracted participants from Kogi, Oyo, Ekiti and
Enugu states and the FCT.
