…To Demolish More Illegal Structures, Soon
Demolition of all il legal structures along the Port Harcourt International Airport, the Port Harcourt International Airport Junction, and Rumuokoro round-about is to commence any time from now.
This follows the expiration of an order jointly issued by the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Council, Welendu Amadi and his Obio/Akpor Council counterpart, Mr. Timothy Nsirim asking all owners of such properties to remove them before the expiration of the deadline.
The notice which expired last Sunday, the 22nd July, 2012 had also stipulated that all broken down vehicles, as well as abandoned scraps along the Rumuokoro – Airport Junction be removed without delay or risk being forcefully removed.
The Council Chairmen had posited that such illegal structures have defaced the area, and have negated the current urban renewal programme of the Amaechi administration.
They insisted that such broken down vehicles and scraps left on the road side had constituted nuisance to the environment, and had caused read obstructions and accidents.
By this expiration of the dead line last Sunday, it is expected that the demolition of structures will resume anytime from Monday, as the chairmen have stated their resolve to begin the exercise through a taskforce that has been set up for that purpose.
