RSG Endorses 272 C Of Os
Rivers State Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Barrister Ezemonye Ezekiel Amadi has debunked claims that the State Government was on land grabbing mission.
Speaking in an interactive media forum organised by Silverbird Communications, Barrister Ezekiel-Amadi said it was untrue that government was forcibly grabbing community lands.
He cited cases of the Banana Farm at Ogoni land and the Greater Port Harcourt City arguing that government had not acquired land without adequate compensation.
Though the law makes government the allocator of all lands, he stated that the present administration had refused to wield such powers to the detriment of its citizenry, noting that all land acquired was legally done and with consent of its owners.
Commenting on the backlog unapproved Certificates of Occupancy (C of Os), the Commissioner submitted that the Amaechi led administration has reviewed the system of approving such vital documents following massive duplications and corruption,” we are requiring all backlogs of applicants to go back to conduct a fresh survey of their properties based on our new parameters”.
He assured that those whose properties had been revalidated would get their documents signed in 90 days as required by law, as he enjoined all those surveying their properties to liaise with Rivers State Geographical Information System (RIVGIS) for final endorsement of their land surveys.
