Remain Resolute Against Gay Marriages, RSG Tells Anglicans
The Rivers State Government has charged the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion to remain resolute in its condemnation of gay marriages.
The Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, who said this during the 21st Synod of the Niger Delta Diocease at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Bonny, described gay marriages as not only unscriptural, but satanic.
The Deputy Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Levi Gogo Charles, said that the Church must remain firm in its condemnation as evil practices must not be allowed to creep into our system.
Speaking as the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Charles said that the Amaechi administration since inception has operated an open door policy, that has enable Rivers people to know the incomes and expenditures of the government.
The Commissioner also said that the government sponsors 300 students overseas every year to undertake courses in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) because of its importance to the state, stressing that the state stand to positively reap maximally from the government investments in the various sectors of the economy.
In his sermon, entitled, “Follow Me, and I Will Make You Fishers Of Men”, the Bishop of Calabar Diocease of the Church Rt. Rev. Tunde Adeleye stressed the need for the active involvement of members of the Anglican Communion in evangelism.
“No one who is called by the name of the Lord, will be excused for not evangelising, you must evengelise”, he said.
Rt. Rev. Adeleye said that evangelism opens the way for salvation to unbelievers as well as eternity to all.
The Bishop of the Niger Delta Diocease, Rt. Rev. Ralph Ebirien paid glowing tributes to past Bishops of the Diocease, who according to him laid the foundation for what the present generation of the Church is enjoying.
The occasion which coincided with the 60th Anniversary of the Diocease was used to honour past Bishops of the Diocese.
They includes; the Rt. Rev. E.T. Dimieari, Rt. Rev. R.N. Bara-Hart, and Rt. Rev. Y.A. Fubara.
The rest are; Rt. Rev. S.O. Elenwo, Rt. Rev. G.H. Pepple, Ven. Frankline I. Dienye, Dume Dr. Ebi Okora, Sir Dr. Benjamin Wilcox amongst others.
