‘Revisit Operational Guidelines Of TIMARIV’
A veteran journalist in Rivers State, Chief Wofuru Okparaolu, has called on the Rivers State Government to revisit the operational guidelines of the State Road Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV) in order to curb its excesses.
Speaking with The Tide correspondent during a stakeholders meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Muhammed Abubakar at the Police Officers Mess, Old GRA, Forces Avenue, Port Harcourt recently, Chief Okparaolu said there was urgent need to checkmate the activities of TIMARIV, as they are becoming an embarrassment to the state.
He said the aim of the Rivers State Government for setting up TIMARIV had been defeated as it was are gradually losing its salt because of the activities of some of its members, and enjoined the authorities to ensure that drastic action was taken against erring officers who want to drag the good intention of the government in the mud.
The veteran journalist noted that their performance and activities had become a great concern to the motoring public in Port Harcourt and its environs, pointing out that they are aggressive in their approach to the public, violent and very crude to members of the public.
Chief Okparaolu, who is also the state president, Veteran Journalist Association said they should be cautioned on how to approach motorists and warned them to shun acts inimical to societal norms.
He called on the government to appoint a monitoring team to oversee the activities of the body in order to bring to book the erring members to serve as deterrent to others, stressing that time had come for government to revisit the operational strategies of TIMARIV in the state.
