Two Port Harcourt Groups For Abuja Choral Festival
Two choral groups last Saturday in Port Harcourt emerged South-South zonal representatives of the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) at the Annual Festival of Nigerian Choirs (AFNC) coming up later in the year at Abuja.
The groups – Divine Order of Cherubim and Seraphim Choir and the Christ Healing Church of Nigeria (CHCN) choir finished first and second with 224 points and 205 points respectively, to clinch the tickets for the Abuja final.
Two choirs each, from the five blocks that make up the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) will participate in the AFNC final contest.
The block are the Catholic, Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) TEKAN/ECWA, Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria/Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN/PFN) and OAIC.
Speaking during the competition which took place at Christ Holy Church International in Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt, president and founder of AFNC, Evangelist Ify Ebosie said the goals of the organisation were to revitalise choirs in churches across the country and upgrade their technical and artistic capacities.
The AFNC, she said, also aims to make choir membership attractive to youths in a beneficial manner among others.
Earlier, the chairman of CAN in Rivers State, Apostle Zilly Aggrey had commended the AFNC and its local organising committee for successfully hosting the zonal competition and hoped that the best choirs capable of winning the Abuja final will emerge.
Aggrey commended the influential role OAIC leaders, including Most Rev. Benjamin Obomanu, the Archbishop of Christ Healing Church of Nigeria were playing in CAN in the state under his leadership.
Four other church choirs which participated in the competition included Christ Holy Church International which finished third with 201 points, Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim which placed fourth with 193 points, The International Church of God which scored 176 points to place 5th and the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement of Nigeria which placed sixth.
