RSG To Arrest Drivers With Unpainted Commercial Vehicles
The Rivers State Government has reiterated that any commercial driver that fails to paint his vehicle to the state colours of sky blue, white and sky blue would be arrested and prosecuted.
The Commissioner for Transport, Hon. George Tolofari dropped the hint during a meeting with members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Rivers State chapter in his office in Port Harcourt, recently.
According to him, the warning became imperative following the security challenges in the country and for easy identification in the event of any problem.
He said every commercial vehicles operating in the state must adhere to the order or face the full wrath of the law, no matter how highly placed or status.
The commissioner also used the forum to call on the Rivers State Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV) to arrest any transporter using the bus stops and loading points, adding that all illegal motor parks would soon be closed down and its operators arrested.
In his respond, the Deputy State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Rivers State chapter, Pastor Duma Kalango said that members of the union would comply according to government directive and thanked the commissioner for the forum.
It would be recalled that the Rivers State government had earlier frowned at the activities of commercial drivers in the state who take the laws unto their hands and park indiscriminately on the road, thereby causing obstruction to other road users.
