PHALGA Set To Rebuild Marine Base Timber Market
The Port Harcourt City Local Government Council, says it is set to reconstruct the Marine Base Timber Market which was gutted by fire last year.
The Mayor of the City, Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo, said this during a courtesy call on him by the executive members of the Market Traders Association in his office.
Akarolo said that it was in fulfilment of his promise and thanked the traders for their patience, stressing that the council was now ready to build a modern timber market that would be equipped with fire fighting equipment and drainage system.
He also said that the council approved funds for the clearing of the entire market while fencing would be carried out immediately.
In his response, the chairman of the association, Hon Tamuno Kuro John, thanked Hon Akarolo for his plans to rebuild the market.
He also promised that the traders would be law-abiding, while paying their taxes promptly when the market is reconstructed.
Meanwhile, as part of his townhall promises, the Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo, has donated two 500hp out board engines to the Commander of Nigeria Naval Hydrographic School, Borikiri, shortly after a courtesy visit to his office, recently.
The PHALGA Chief Security Officer stated that the donation of the out board engines to the force would enhance security measures along coastal regions in Port Harcourt Local Government Area.
Akarolo hinted that the gesture was part of the council’s efforts in complementing state government’s determination to combat crime along the waterways in PHALGA.
In his reaction, while receiving the two out board engines, the Commander of the Nigerian Naval Hydrographic School, Borikiri, Nuhu Bala, said the equipment would not only assist them in combating crime but also in training their officers and men.
Bala thanked the Mayor of Port Harcourt for the partnership in curbing crime in the area.
