Consultant Warns Against Unapproved Billboards, Posters
In a bid to enforce the Obio/Akpor Outdoor Advertisement (Control and Regulation) Bye-law No. 5 of 2004 as amended in 2011 which became operational from January 1, 2012, the consultant to the Obio/Akpor Local Government Council of Rivers State, VIA Services Limited, has cautioned against the erection of billboards and display of banners and posters in the local government without due approval.
To this end, the council has called on all out-of-home, outdoor practitioners, billboards owners and business premises and shops as well as individuals and corporate organisations to immediately tag name-plates on their billboards for easy identification and survey.
A statement to that effect issued in Port Harcourt and signed by a representative of VIA Services Limited on behalf of the council, Mr Chuku Okechukwu, also directed them to forward within seven days the statistics of their billboards for approval.
Okechukwu, therefore, urged all concerned persons and corporate organisations within the local government to contact the council through VIA Services Limited for further information at No 2 Chiworlu Street, Rumuigbo.
He noted that the consulting firm was in charge of control and management of outdoor advertising for the local government council, adding that the warning had become necessary for effective implementation of the local government bye-law on outdoor advertisement.
According to him, the measure was taken to check the high incidence of unapproved billboards, banners and posters dotting the local government.
