RSG Moves To Decongest Traffic … Plans To Fence Off Creek Road Market
The Rivers State Government is living no stone unturned to ensure free flow of traffic within Port Harcourt and its environs.
To this end, plans are in the offing to fence off the Creek Road Market to forestall the encroachment of traders on the road.
The state Commissioner for Transport, Hon George Tolofari dropped this hint during an unscheduled visit to some markets and illegal motor parks in Port Harcourt.
Hon Tolofari expressed dismay over the attitude of some traders who carry out their activities on the road, pointing out that apart from exposing them to accidents, it is unfair and dangerous.
According to him, government would soon begin to enforce the full wrath of the low and added that the law also stipulates that heavy duty vehicles could only come into Port Harcourt as from 9.00 pm to 6 O’clock in the morning.
The Transport boss reiterated that bus shelters were constructed for commercial drivers to pick and drop passengers, and warned those who used them to drop passengers to desist or be prosecuted by the Rivers State Transport Management Agency (TIMARIV).
The commissioner was accompanied by his Urban Development counterpart, Dr Tammy Danagogo, Controller General of TIMARIV, Mr Nelson Jaja and the chairman, Environmental Sanitation Authority, Mr Isoboye Jack.
