Rivers CP Wants Youths To Fight Crime
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, has charged various youth organizations in the state to collaborate with security operatives in order to curtail the prevailing rate of crime in the state.
The state commissioner of police gave the charge during the inauguration ceremony of 23 local government area coordinators of Rivers State Youth Federation (RSYF), held at Police Mess, Port Harcourt, Wednesday.
Represented by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Ben Ugwuegbulam, Abba attributed the huge success achieved by the police in the state to the good relationship existing between the command and the youths in state.
He described youths as a veritable tool for development in any society and commended them for their peaceful behavior in the state.
The state commissioner of police averred that the force has undergone series of re-organisation exercise and it’s better equipped for effective service delivery in the state.
According to him, the police depend on the partnership with the youth to solve crime in the state adding that the job of policing is too tasking to be left alone for the police.
“Community policing is an integral relationship between the police and the community to secure their area. We believe in consultations and participatory policing and everybody must participate”, he stated.
Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion, and a member of the governing council National Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Chief Casca Ogosu charged the youths in the state to be good ambassadors by preaching peace in their communities.
Chief Ogosu also called on the local government area coordinators not to use their position to create trouble in their area and assured them of his support.
Earlier in his address, the National President, Rivers State Youth Federation (RSYF), Comrade Adokiye Mujiton said that the youth coordinators were selected after meeting the stipulated criteria.
He used the opportunity to explained that the organisation was not formed for any political intention rather the youth he said, represents the identity of the state.
The climax of the event was presentation of awards to three sons of Niger Delta.
