President of ACCIMA, Chief Eleanya Okoroji, who made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Aba, Abia on Thursday said, “it is the only way to boost food security in the state”.
Okoroji said that ACCIMA was ready to partner with the government to promote agriculture.
He gave the assurance that it would also help the members to access various agricultural credit funds of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Nigerian Agricultural Bank (NAB).
The ACCIMA president said that the intervention of the state government was necessary because “agriculture as the bedrock of social and industrial development will further boost the state economy”.
He said, “The chamber will partner with the government towards the expansion and modernisation of various markets in Aba to make finished product accessible to the consumers”.
He commended the state government for the urban renewal programme in Aba metropolis, which had led to the demolition of illegal structures during the urban renewal programme,” he said.
He said that the success of the relocation would eliminate any backlash that might lead to upsurge of crime in the commercial city and the state in general.
“We implore the government to give a thought to these suggestions”.
