‘How Oil Production Can Resume In Ogoniland’
The Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, has identified full implementation of the United Nations Environment Progamme (UNEP) report on Ogoniland as a critical factor for the resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland.
Senator Abe, a prominent Ogoni leader and chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), also said that the deregulation of the petroleum sector would lead to the creation of more job opportunities for Nigerians.
The senator who was reacting to questions at an interactive session with youths at Bera, Gokana Local Government also remarked that the upper legislative chamber was not opposed to state creation in the country, but quickly added that if the issue must be visited the benchmark for state creation should be economic viability.
He was emphatic that government would no longer create states that depend on federation allocation for their survival.
Senator Abe, however said that his office would soon come up with a blueprint for youth development in Rivers South-East Senatorial District, adding that the blueprint would encompass Education, Sports development and Entertainment.
Also speaking, the state deputy governor, Engr Tele Ikuru, who was special guest of honour at the occasion, spoke of the need for elected representatives to be accountable to their people and described the interactive session as the first of its kind in the area.
The deputy governor lauded Senator Abe for his commitment to ensuring that the people received quality representation at the Senate and expressed confidence that participants of the meeting have been enriched through the quality of interaction.
