RMRDC DG Urges FG To Prioritise Investments
The Director General of Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Prof. Peter Onwualu, has called on the Federal Government to prioritise investments in the industrial sector.
Onwualu made the call in Jalingo on Wednesday during a workshop on industrial awareness, organised by RMRDC in collaboration with Taraba Agricultural and Produce Marketing Agency (TAPMA).
He decried the country’s dependence on the importation of finished goods with minimum value addition to national resources.
“Overtime, the country has been largely dependent on importation of finished products with minimum utilisation of local raw materials.
“This is detrimental to overall national economic growth and development of any nation. No nation can survive without a vibrant industrial sector.”
Represented by the Taraba State Coordinator of the council, Alhaji Abdullahi Ahmed, Onwualu added that value addition would ensure food security, reduce post harvest losses and create job opportunities.
Mr Anthony Jellason, the Commissioner for Agriculture, thanked RMRDC for organising the workshop to raise industrial awareness among Taraba people. Participants in the forum included farmers, the academia, civil servants and others.
