RIVC AS To Get 2011 Budgetary Fund
The Rivers State Govern-
ment, has assured the management of the State’s College of Arts and Science (RIVCAS) that its 2011 budgetary fund would be released to further strengthen its academic base.
Governor Chibuike Amaechi gave the assurance, Friday, when members of the institution’s Governing Council led by its Chairman, Dr. Soba Wilcox paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Amaechi said his administration was poised to support and develop the institution as employment of more lecturers would soon be approved to enhance the teaching capacity of the school.
On the request for a change of the institution’s name to reflect its new polytechnic status, the governor said the nomenclature does not make an institution but the accredited courses and quality of education offered.
He, thanked the Board members for their achievements so far.
Earlier, chairman of the Rivers State College of Arts and Science, Governing Council, Dr. Soba Wilcox said the board has carried out infrastructural and academic reforms in the institution including the upgrade of the school to status of a Polytechnic. She said the board believes that a change of name is necessary to reflect the school’s new status and attract more patronage and intervention funds, while calling on the government for more support.
Meanwhile, Governor Amaechi has condoled with the family of Late Elder James Ndukwe Amadi, father of the lawmaker representing Etche Constituency 1 in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Amadi.
Amaechi described the Late Ndukwe Amadi as a humble, dedicated and hard working civil servant who before his retirement contributed to the development of the State and Etche Local Government Area in particular.
Speaking at the funeral service held at Amadi’s compound in Obokwu-Ozuzu, Etche Local Government Area, Saturday, Governor Amaechi urged the family to bear the loss while assuring them of God’s protection and blessings.
“I had hoped that late Elder James would have lived beyond eighty years because, the wife just died three years ago and today we are here again to mourn him, may his soul rest in the bosom of the Lord, Amen.”
