PHCN’s Billing System Arbitrary – Senate
The Senate Committee on Power has decried the billing system in which pre-determined estimates are imposed on residents inspite of the pre-paid metres which enable users pay for only what they consume.
Speaking at an interactive session with PHCN officials in Abuja, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, Sen. Philip Aduda (PDP-FCT), directed that the cost of the pre-paid metres be spread over a period of one year.
Aduda also said the pre-paid metre fee should be divided into N2,000 monthly to enable rural dwellers pay for them.
He said electricity was central to economic activities in the country, noting that constant supply would enable artisans, especially those in rural areas, to earn a living.
Aduda also told PHCN officials to ensure the redemption of payment certificates to contractors within two weeks of issuance to enable them fulfill their obligations in the execution of projects.
