Lagos Restates Commitment To Healthy Environment
The Lagos State Commission for Health, Jide Idris, has pledged the commitment of the state government to a healthy environment for the overall well being of the inhabitants of the state.
To make the pledge workable, the commissioner urges the public to always observe strict personal and environmental hygiene.
This became necessary as the state planned a mass burial of unclaimed corpses that had been abandoned at the mortuary of the General Hospital, Isolo, for more than three months.
The commissioner who said that the mass burial was necessary to allow for proper burial and prevent further decomposition in line with the belief that dead bodies must be treated with dignity and respect, noted that the measure was not only aimed at decongesting the hospital’s mortuary, but also to ensure a healthy environment.
He therefore, stressed the need for members of the public to avoid indiscriminate disposal of refuse into drainages, canals and water ways. Idris said clearing of drains in front of houses, safe disposal of human waste and observation of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise will go a long way in ensuring a healthy and hygienc environment as well as prevent outbreak of communicable diseases.
