RSG, NGO To Partner For The Elderly
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has said that Government identifies with laudable efforts of the O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation in providing succour for the elderly in the society
Governor Amaechi said this during an Advocacy Roundtable with the theme, “The Status and Care of the Elderly in Nigeria”, organised by the O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation at the Main Bowl of the State House of Assembly, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, the Governor commended the Foundation for its programmes targeted at the socially displaced, especially the aged, noting that “the decision to start this foundation was deliberate, because inspite of several options, its promoter chose to touch the lives of the abandoned, the needy and the downtrodden,” urging everyone to “remember that there are people whose age has undermined their capacity to fend for themselves”.
Lamenting the current economic realities in the country which has negatively impacted the lives of the people, the State Chief Executive, praised the Foundation for blazing the trail in the care for the elderly, adding that “OB. Lulu-Briggs is setting a trend in the society,” assuring the Foundation of the State Government’s continued support in achieving its objectives.
In her goodwill message, the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, represented by the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Hajia Zainab Ibrahim Kuchi, expressed delight that “the O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation has grown into an oak,” regretting the neglect of the elderly in the society, of well meaning Nigerians to channel resources to the help of the elderly in the society, he urged well meaning Nigerians to channel resources to the held of the elderly .
