FAAN Graduates 154 Aviation Officers
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) last Friday graduated 154 aviation security officers for the 2011 AVSEC STP 123 Basic Course.
The event, which took place at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, was attended by officers of the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Police Force.
Mr Richard Aisuebeogun, the FAAN Managing Director, said on the event that the graduation was a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to maintaining the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAOs) standards in aviation security.
Aisuebeogun, who was represented by the FAAN Director of Administration, Mr Adeniyi Ajakaiye, said the recent bombings and terrorist attacks worldwide posed a great challenge to the aviation industry.
“It is important to remind the cadets that the ICAO Annex 17, which relates to issues of security at the airports, is very clear on the requirements and professional conducts of aviation security personnel.
“I am sure that you have been made aware of the danger in compromising standards in the discharge of your sensitive duties at our airports.
“Management will not hesitate to discipline those found wanting,’’ he said.
The managing director urged the graduates to distinguish themselves through dedication to duty.
“There is no doubt that the period you have spent during your training has considerably prepared you in learning and in character to become ambassadors of the authority, and the country,’’ he said.
One of the graduates, Mr Adoh Olufemi, told newsmen that he and his colleagues would do their best in the service.
The graduates would be posted to the various airports in the country.
