Commissioner Orders Contractor To Stop Work
The Delta Commissioner for Works, Chief Funkekeme Solomon, has ordered the contractor handling a drainage project at Issele-Uku to stop work over poor execution of the job.
He also directed the works ministry’s engineer supervising the project to ensure that the contractor complied fully with the job specifications as provided in the contract.
The commissioner gave the order on Monday at Issele-Uku while inspecting some government projects in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.
“Why are you using this type of materials after you agreed to do the job according to the terms of the contract and funds were released for it?”
Solomon expressed dismay at the attitude of community leaders in the area for failing to report the contractor to the ministry over the shoddy manner the project was being executed.
“This is what we tell the communities always; they should monitor projects in their environments and report any irregularities they notice on the jobs.
“The projects are intended to improve living standards in the communities and as government officials we cannot be everywhere to monitor daily performance of contractors. The communities should support us to do so.
“I am appealing to communities where projects are being executed to monitor them and report any observed lapses on the part of the contractors or government itself.”
The commissioner also inspected the ongoing Idumuogo-Obomkpa-Ukwunzu-Ubulubu road and gave assurance that the project would be completed after the rainy season.
Solomon, accompanied by the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation (Micro-Credits), Dr Anthonia Ashiedu, also inspected work on the Ohordua-Ogbodua-Ogbodu-Issele-Uku-Onicha-Uku road being constructed by Federal Government.
