Rivers Institute Of Journalism Matriculates 450 Students
The Port Harcourt Service Centre of the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) has matriculated about 450 students in three years to meet the educational development in the country, specially, in Journalism.
Speaking with The Tide immediately after the 4th Annual matriculation programme of the institute Saturday, the coordinator of the institute, Mr Ibituru Pepple said, out of the 450 students, about108 matriculated last Saturday.
According to him, the institute, since his assumption of office as the coordinator, has recorded developments in manpower and infrastructure.
“We have also institutionalised the lecture services, which is now an annual ritual of the school. We have acquired a school bus and launched an Annual Lecture Book which is a testimony of our dedication to learning,” he stated.
Pepple, however, appealed to the Director of the Institute, Abuja, Dr. Emma Shehu Usman to increase the percentage due the centre to enable them establish ICT laboratory and a qualify conference and lecturers common room.
On his part, the Director of IIJ said the institute has so far matriculated about 500 students this fear.
Dr Usman said there are lots of challenges faced by the institute but “what we are trying to do is to collaborate with stakeholders to alleviate the financial burden of the institute.
He enjoined students admitted into the school to take their studies serious in order to get quality education.
Usman expressed joy over the transformation that has taken place in the past three years in IIJ, Port Harcourt centre and urged the coordinator to maintain and sustain such qualities in the institute.
Highlight of the occasion was the constitution of the first student union government (SUG) of the institute with Mr Green Eni as President and Igani Obuta Doris as Secretary.
Other members are Georfe Sotonye Dickson (Treasurer), Nwama Saro (member) and Lily Taria Soton-Ibi as member.
