FG Spends N10bn On Education In Six Months
Minister of State for Education, Mr Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi said the federal government has so far spent N10 billion on primary and secondary education within the last six months in Nigeria.
Speaking at a one-day stakeholders meeting on the pre-service and in-service report for early childhood development project in Abuja recently, Gbagi said it was wrong to accuse government alone for the shortcomings of the education sector.
He accused parents of abdicating their parental responsibilities in the search for wealth, which he said has had an adverse effect on child development in particular and education in general.
The Minister of State for Education expressed disappointment adding that parents now assist their children to cheat by compromising their teachers to give them underserved marks.
He also expressed concern that despite the development and adoption of the national policy on Integrated Early Childhood Development in Nigeria since 2007, there are still challenges as “statistics indicates that 2.02 out of 22 million Nigerian children eligible for early childhood education have access to early childhood services in the country.
“Unless we get the issue of child education right, everything else would be a waste of time,” he said.
Gbahi advised parents to create more time for their children/wards in order to enable them perform exceedingly well in their examinations.
