Senatorial Aspirant Makes Case For Oil Producing Communities
Abia South Senatorial aspirant, Uche Enyioko, (PPA), has called for the adoption of the Ledum Mitee Technical Committee Report as benchmark for the development of oil communities.
Enyioko, former commissioner for agriculture in Abia, told newsmen in Umuahia, yesterday that such action would be the most virile panacea to the insecurity problem in the area.
“We should waste no time any longer in implementing this white paper for the overall interest of our people,” he said.
He reiterated that the oil producing communities had suffered long period of neglect, adding that the level of development in the area did not equate its contribution to national development.
He regretted that his people had long suffered the consequences of oil spillage arising from the exploration of crude oil, “yet we don’t have anything to show for it’’.
“I have offered myself to serve my people and to ensure that justice and equity reigned supreme in our country and this includes the aggressive development of the oil rich communities.
“My candidacy stands for that generational change which our people have longed for and together we can achieve that,” he said.
Enyioko said that the people of his constituency needed a grassroots mobiliser who would take the people out of the woods and re-engineer a process that would usher in healthy and integrated development.
“The time has come for the enthronement of a visionary, responsive and dependable candidate who will stand in the gap for the people,” he said.
He said that he would ensure quality representation for his people and that he would ensure that youth development and empowerment took the centre stage during his tenure.
