RSG Engages Indian Firm To Manage Schools
The Rivers State Government has stated its intention to engage an Indian firm to manage the model secondary schools being built by the state government to ensure effective administration of the schools.
Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, the State Governor, stated this recently during the inspection of the site for the building of a model secondary school in Port Harcourt local government area.
Governor Amaechi said that the state was currently negotiating the cost per student, saying that government will pay the fees of each student.
He appealed to Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), who are financing the construction of the model school in Port Harcourt to hasten work on the project to ensure that all the schools start at the same time.
The Governor, thus ordered for the demolition of all illegal structures within the site of the schools and directed the state commissioner for land and survey to value the affected properties, so that compensation will be paid to their owners.
While promising to provide adequate security for the contractor handling the job, Amaechi charged him to hasten work on the N3 billion school project so that the state government can meet its target in education reform.
The Governor’s promise was in response to an earlier appeal by Mr. Uche Nwabuoku, the SPDC project leader handling the school project, to ensure security of the site, and also ensure that illegal occupants of the site are vacated.
Mr. Nwabuoku had also assured on SPDC commitment to contribute its quota to enhance the state government’s achievement of its policy on education, by ensuring that the structures are delivered on time.
The inspection tour also took the Governor to the construction site of the New Okujagu/Woji bridge and road project under- taken by JDP at Okuru-Ama junction.
