NOSDRA, UNDP Partner On Damage Assessment
The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has said that it is collaborating with the UNDP to work out guidelines on damage assessment.
The Acting Director-General of NOSDRA, Mrs Uche Okwechime, stated this when Dr Charles Agbo, the Acting Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), paid her a courtesy visit in Abuja on Friday.
He said the old assessment was not acceptable to the communities.
“What we have now is not authentic and not acceptable to the communities, so we are trying to come up with an acceptable rate any moment from now,” she said.
She said the guidelines on assessment would be used in paying compensation to communities affected by oil spill.
Earlier, Agbo said the purpose of his visit was to seek advice on how to move the two agencies forward and improve their activities in disaster management.
He said NOSDRA was fully represented in the National Framework on Disaster Management and in all other programmes of NEMA.
He called for mutual cooperation and understanding between the two agencies to achieve the desired goals.
