Delta State Government has inaugurated Women Rehabilitation Programme at Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area of the state .
Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, at the occasion, restated his commitment to human capital development, explaining that the programme was meant for its indigent and deprived women.
The governor said that the scheme was designed to lessen the burden on the female population in the state.
Uduaghan, who was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Amos Utuama, added that the programme was targeted at young girls and women from indigent background and school dropouts.
He said that through the training at the centre, their economic activities would be enhanced.
The governor urged the trainees to take the programme seriously so that at the end, they could set up their own small-scale businesses.
He also said that his administration recognised the importance of capacity building and skill acquisition in uplifting the quality of life of the people and development of communities.
“In the past three years, we have continued to develop programmes that will reduce the burden of the female folk in our state.
These, he said, included free maternal healthcare, micro credit scheme and women in agriculture.
He appealed to Delta citizens, especially women, to key into the programmes as, according to him, the state would not relent in its women development effort.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Victoria Ikenchuku, said the centre would take off with 100 trainees.
She said they were selected from 148 young girls and women who applied for enlistment, adding that the skills to be taught included catering, fashion designing and hairdressing.
She added that the training would last for 12months and is non-residential.
