PCRC Commends Government Over 150 Police Vans
The Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) Rivers State has commended the Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for providing 150 patrol vehicles and other security gadgets to the Rivers State Police Command.
This was contained in a communiqué made available to newsmen at the end of its 115th general sessions in Port Harcourt.
The committee also commended the Governor for the training of over 600 neghbourhood watchmen across the 23 local Government Areas as well as the establishment of call centres in the state.
The PCRC however regretted that despite the efforts of the state Government in this direction, crime has continue to increase in the state.
It noted the difficult terrain of the state with several exit routes not covered by security personnel and urged for the training of more policemen to mount vigilance at the strategic points in the state.
The communiqué which was jointly signed by the chairman Hon. Austen Yong and the secretary Mr. Jettrey Anugwo however blamed the upsurged in criminal activities in the state on the activities of people from neighbouring states and urged the people of the state to be vigilant while all criminal activities should be reported to the police.
It frowned at the interference of politicians and come top government officers in police investigation when their cronies were arrested for criminal offence, adding that the action embolden such criminal to involve in more diabolical and notorious acts.
The committee which expressed concern over the upsurge in teenage pregnancy, urged government to create employment opportunities for youth in the state.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
