RSUBEB Gets Tough With Teachers
Following poor performance of some teachers at the on-going promotion interviews embarked upon by the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, RSUBEB, the board has vowed not to promote teachers who failed to defend their qualification.
Chairman of RSUBEB, Sir Ali Oruitemeka said this last Friday during an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.
According to Oruitemeka, teachers who are unable to prove ownership of the certificates presented during the recent promotion interview may not be promoted.
“The situation is such that some of them were even unable to state immediately such details as their discipline and year of graduation”, he said.
Consequently, Oruitemeka explained further “we have directed such teachers to get the brochure showing their names as graduates of the institution they claimed to have attended.
“Some of them (teachers) cannot even fill forms given to them. How can such persons be expected to teach pupils, let alone justifying their promotion.
He stated that promotion interview of staff of the board is on-going, adding that on conclusion, there would be mass transfer of teachers to rural areas.
According to him, investigation has shown that schools in urban areas are over-populated with teachers hence the need to move the excess to rural areas.
