The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, has generated N127.6m revenue and recorded 843 seizures for the first half of the year, 2010.The Area Controller of the Command, Mr. Emmanuel Kane, said this during an inspection tour of the seized items in Lagos on Thursday.

A total of 57 suspects were arrested within the period, most of who has been released on bail. Three cases have been successfully prosecuted in court and conviction secured.”
According to Kane, the Command lost five officers in the course of duty during the period under review. He further lamented the continuous attack on the Customs officers, saying that some were attacked and wounded at the Gbaji check point with their vehicles destroyed, adding that the unique nature of the task made the officers exposed to high risk.
He encouraged the officers to continue to do their best for the development of the economy and security of the nation, adding that the Command would not relent in its efforts to ensure that it increased revenue generation and sustain the fight against smuggling.Kane said, “Again, one of my patrol teams led by SC Ogbemi, S/F had a terrible head on collision with a tokunbo car being smuggled along Joga Orile road. My officers were wounded and two lives were lost in that incident. This is the type of situation we face daily. Needless to add the countless cases of assault on officers and men in the course of duty.”
He attributed the success of the Command to motivational measures especially in the area remuneration and equipment done by the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko, and charged the officers to discharge their duty accordingly.
