Skye Bank Donates Patrol Vehicles To TIMA-RIV
The Management of Skye Bank Plc, last Tuesday donated three Tata security patrol jeeps and five police patrol power-bikes to Rivers State Traffic Inspection Management Authority (TIMA-RIV).
The gesture is part of its social corporate responsibility to the society to assist in easing the hectic traffic situation in the State.
Speaking during a brief hand-over ceremony, the Head of Transport of Skye Bank, Port Harcourt, Mr. Andrew Amadasun, said the Bank decided to donate the items to fight the unprecedented hectic traffic situation in the state.
According to him, most of Sky Bank’s commercial buses hardly have space to park at the designated Bus-stops or parks, because most of the parks have been taken over by taxis and commercial vehicles.
Consequently, to make the existing parks a bit comfortable, there was need to fight “traffic madness on our road, and the donated items will certainly go a long way to assist,” Amadasun noted.
He explained that Skye Bank in partnership with Rivers State Transport Management Authority presently have 350 taxis, 120 high capacity buses and 30 mini-buses plying the roads in Rivers State.
The bank, the said, felt “it was of no use to purchase more vehicles, but rather to assist in bringing sanity to the road.”
Amadasun stated that the essence of the bank partnering with the transport authority was to improve the infrastructural base for public transportation in the state and urged other corporate bodies and companies in Rivers State to assist the State Government to improve the hectic transport situation in the state.
He stated that few of the challenges that Port Harcourt City Bus Service has been facing since they started operation include that of old operators not wanting to see the new reform transport system grow, and touts attacking the buses (high purpose vehicle) and taxis, while commercial bus operators have turned the bus-stop into a mini loading park.
Also speaking at the occasion, the secretary/legal adviser to Rivers State traffic inspection management authority, Miss Cleverline Brown thanked Skye Bank for the gesture saying the donated items will help the authority to take-off operationally since the authority does not have “much for now.”
On how supportive the police command has been to her authority, Brown noted that they “work hand in glove with the police.”
She also said Ministry of Environment has been assisting them to clear some hoodlums, hawkers and street traders on the roads to achieve success.
