… Tasks NAF On Security
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, says Rivers State, as the hub of business in Nigeria needs adequate security for her to continue to serve the nation’s economic needs well.
Governor Amaechi stated this Friday during the official commissioning of some projects at the 97 Special Operations Group, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base, in Port Harcourt.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, Governor Amaechi called on the Air Force to step up its surveillance activities in the state by deploying more aircrafts, noting that this has become imperative due to the heavy traffic of goods and humans in and out of the state.
Commending the Air officers who executed the various projects commissioned, the state chief executive said they were worthy of higher responsibilities, saying that the “military around the world remains the home of the finest professionals and Science and Technology,” regretting the available and qualitative manpower in the country’s armed forces were still under-utilised.
Earlier, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin, had disclosed that the projects executed by the NAF’s Directorate of Works are part of efforts to provide incentives to boost the morale of the personnel, adding such incentives will enhance the professional capability of the officers and men.
Urging the officers and men of the Air Force to compliment the gesture by showcasing the highest standards of professionalism in their various assignments, Air Marshal Petinrin pledged the commitment of the Force to the continued to defence of the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
Speaking, Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, NAF, Air Vice Marshal Jeremiah Babalola, said the projects include a block of 32 flats completed within six months, which would provide accommodation for the officer cadre, and two other buildings for operational use by the personnel.
Dignitaries at the event include the Brigade Commander, 2 Amphibious Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ladan Yusuf, Commanding officer, NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Umar Ahmed, and Commander, 97 Special Operations Group, NAF, Air Commodore Sadiq Abubakar.
Others are the state Commander, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Danjuma Elish, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, Rivers State Command, Mr. George Dilosi, state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police Joshua Habila, the Eze Ekpeye Logbo, HRM Flight Lieutenant Robinson Robinson, among others.
